MARIE CHARLES

 Ms. Charles is the founding attorney of  In statera. She has developed extensive experience in the amicable resolution of complex, cross-border disputes, with a particular focus on matters arising in France, Africa, and other international jurisdictions. She regularly assists clients in pre-litigation negotiations and mediation proceedings and has consequently drafted numerous settlement agreements.

She also represents clients before institutional international arbitral tribunals (AAA, ICC, CCJA and ICSID) and ad hoc arbitral tribunals (under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and the OHADA Uniform Act on Arbitration), as well as before French state courts (corporate law) and African state courts (OHADA law). She specializes in appeals before the Common Court of Justice and Arbitration in Abidjan (CCJA) and represents clients in proceedings for the setting aside and enforcement of arbitral awards before the same Court. She also advises clients on all matters relating to OHADA law.

Ms. Charles holds an LL.B. (Civil Law) and an LL.M. in Common Law from the University of Montreal. She was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 2007 (currently inactive), the New York Bar in 2009, and the Paris Bar in 2012. Before founding In Statera, she practiced for several years as an independent attorney within a Paris-based law firm, where she built a diverse client base of individuals and companies. She also worked as an associate with the Africa team of a leading French law firm and in the International Arbitration department of a UK law firm in Paris. She advises clients in both French and English.
